This is really an unfairly sweeping category for some of the island-grown coffees around the world whose only common characteristics are that they are grown in volcanic soil.
Hawaii and Jamaica produce two of the richest-flavored, fullest-bodied, best-balanced coffees in the world. The annual crops of Kona and Jamaica Blue Mountain are very small and quite expensive, but even at $40 to $50 a pound for Jamaica Blue Mountain, that is no more than $1 a cup for one of the most exquisite coffees you’ll ever taste.
The Indonesian islands produce heavy bodied coffees with lower-toned acidity. This makes them stands up very well to cream and sugar or with a liquor. They make excellent after-dinner coffees.
All coffee sold in 3/4 lb. sealed bags.
